Description: The Kalal are a widely dispersed people group in South Asia whose traditional
occupation was the distillation and sale of alcoholic drinks. Many Kalal have since
transitioned from this occupation and are engaged in a variety of daily wage-labor
activities.
Prayer Points:
• Like many occupational castes in India, the traditional role of the Kalal has been affected by modernization. Pray that spiritual strongholds related to alcoholism might be broken, and that a new era of blessing and peace might come through Jesus to the Kalal.
• The Kalal consult sorcerers called Gunia to protect them from evil spirits and to deal with sickness. Pray for freedom from this cycle of bondage, and that that they might discover the power of Jesus, who alone can permanently drive out the evil one from their lives.
• The Kalal were branded as criminals by Hindus and unclean by Muslims because of their traditional occupation. Pray that they might find a new identity in Christ as "a holy nation, a people belonging to God" (1 Pet 2:9).
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, there is no limit to your awesome power to save, heal and redeem. May the fulness of your grace visit the Kalal and bring light into their darkness.
Every year 34,000 Kalal die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
