Description: The Yoruk are a distinct cultural group of nomadic shepherds who speak a Turkic language called Balkan Gagauz Turkish. They live along the coastal areas of the Mediterranean Sea in the Spring and Summer. In the Winter they live on the plains of Antioch.
Prayer Points:
• The traditional nomadic way of life of the Yoruk has been interrupted by an expansion of farming which has limited their pastureland. Pray for creative ministry that will help them adapt to these changes and for special outreach to those still pursuing a nomadic lifestyle.
• The Yoruk suffer from feuds between families that can lead to violent attacks and deaths. Pray that the Spirit of God might awaken them to seek the peace and forgiveness only Christ can bring.
• The Yoruk both travel and settle in "lineages" of related families who descend from a common ancestor. Pray that the living patriarchs of these extended families might experience and embrace the power of the gospel through the Holy Spirit.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, bless the families and homes of the Yoruk to seek your face and open their hearts to the revelation found in your Son Jesus.
Every year 4,000 Yoruk die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
