Description: The Warain are a confederation of 17 Berber tribes in Northeast Morocco. Their cluster of dialects are considered transitional between Riffi and Central Atlas Tamazight. Traditionally they practiced a nomadic lifestyle, though today most are sedentary or semi-nomadic.
Prayer Points:
• The Warain tribes are famous for their carpets, which are produced by a rare breed of sheep. They often feature crosses, which they believe ward off evil. Pray that they might come to know the true power behind the cross and its meaning in the gospel of Christ.
• The Warain resisted being dominated by invading Arab armies by retreating high into the mountains. However, many young people are now moving to the cities and Pray that this desire to preserve their language and heritage might attract them to Jesus who seeks transformation not replacement of culture.
• More research must be done on the dialects spoken by the Warain tribes, which may require their own gospel resources. Pray for surveyors to be sent soon and for oral adaptations of scriptures from related languages to be made.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant the Warain tribes the grace to receive your son Jesus as Lord and Savior over their lives and within their hearts.
Every year 3,000 Warain Berbers die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
