Description: The Meitei are the largest Tibeto-Burman people to convert to Hinduism. They are closely related to the Kuki-Chin cluster and as such their culture represents a blend between Indian and Tibeto-Burman peoples. They are the major ethnicity in the Indian state of Manipur.
Prayer Points:
• Women enjoy a high economic status among the Meitei and control the traditional retail markets, including vegetable and clothing trades. Pray that God would raise up strong Christian leaders among Meitei women who will work together for the transformation of their people.
• Unrest in Manipur due to a violent independence movement has hurt the economy and resulted in massive extortion by rebel groups of their own people. Pray for reconciliation and repentance for those involved in this human tragedy.
• A church-planting movement has begun among the Meitiei. Pray for strong national leaders to assume the role of pastoring these new churches, and for smooth transition from missionary initiative to national-led initiative.
