Description: The Shina are a major tribe in the northern province of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan. They are part of the Dardic ethno-linguistic cluster which includes related tribes such as the Kashmiri and the Pashaya. The Shina are sub-divided into many tribes and dialects, a reflection of the rugged terrain in which they inhabit.
Prayer Points:
• The Shina love music and have special songs and dances for their many festivals throughout the year. The Islamic mullahs have attempted to restrict these practices. Pray that the Shina might be liberated in Christ and that their traditional art-forms might find their place in God-glorifying worship in His Church.
• Many Shina have learned Urdu and thousands have migrated to Karachi and Islamabad for work. Pray that Panjabi believers in these cities might make an intentional effort to find and love Shina migrants and share Jesus with them.
• The Shina have been influenced by all the major sects of Islam. In the West many have become Ismailis and in the East many have become Shias. Pray that Jesus might become a unifying force for the Shina people and that a national Church might emerge among all their clans and tribes.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, may the love and hope you have given to the Shina become known to them through the supernatural enabling of your Holy Spirit.
