Description: The Bakhtiari are an Indo- Iranian people, closely related to the Luri. It is believed they were once united with the Luri as a single tribe that split around 1,500 years ago. Today, they insist on their uniqueness as a people, and react negatively when labeled as "Turkic," though they have borrowed culturally from neighboring Turkic peoples, such as the Qashqai.
Prayer Points:
• The Bakhtiari tribal chieftans and their families, which are called ilkhani, were forced to go into hiding due to efforts by the Persian Mullah's to control them. Pray for these historically strategic families that they might be open to the gospel and lead their people into salvation through Christ.
• Many Bakhtiari are still nomadic, in spite of attempts by the Iranian government to restrict this practice. Pray that Persian believers would catch a vision for reaching these remote regions and for open doors to live among them.
• The Jesus Film has been recently produced in the Bakhtiari language. Pray for opportunities to show the film and for hearts to be receptive.
