Description: The Tigre are an Afro-asiatic people group living in northern Eritrea. They speak a semitic language and are related to the Tigrinya of Central Eritrea and the Beja of Sudan. By the 19th century, the vast majority had converted to Islam.
Prayer Points:
• The government severely persecutes the church in Eritrea. Among the Tigre only a few secret house fellowships are known. Pray for a spiritual awakening among the leaders of Eritrea and for the strengthening of isolated believers.
• The Tigre are the largest unengaged unreached people group in Africa. All missionaries were forced to leave Eritrea in 2002 and no Christian work is permitted. Pray for creative access to the Tigre and for open doors to relaunch ministry among them.
• The Tigre are a traditionally nomadic people and many continue this lifestyle even today. Pray for outreach to the tens of thousands who have moved to Sudan and that these in turn might take the gospel back to their kinsmen in Eritrea.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, pour out your grace upon the Tigre who have put their faith in you and empower them to reach their people with the love of Jesus.
Every year 12,000 Tigre die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
