Description: The Egyptian Domari, also known as Gypsies, are a large but somehwhat hidden people group. Most speak Arabic as their mother tongue, but a significant minority still speak Domari. There are three major occupational subgroups, known as Ghagars, Nawars and Halebi.
Prayer Points:
• The Egyptian Domari play a prominent, but sometimes frowned upon role, in festivals and ceremonies as entertainers. They are regarded as social outcastes and unorthodox. Pray that Christians in Egypt might lovingly embrace them and warmly accept them into fellowship through Christ.
• Many Domari have specialized skills which are sometimes applied seasonally as required, such as metal smiths, horse traders, and mechanical repairman. Pray that their creative abilities and adaptiveness might become useful to the Kingdom in missionary service.
• The decline of tourism in Egypt has had a hard impact on the Domari and many live in dire poverty. Significant numbers have taken up residence in tombs among ancient cemetaries. Pray that in the midst of this despair the light of Christ might lift them out of darkness both spiritually and physically.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, you champion the cause of the oppressed and strengthen the weary. May the truth of the gospel become their eternal hope.
Every year 21,000 Egyptian Domari die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
