Description: The Uzbeki Tajiks are ethnic Tajiks who have maintained their unique culture and identity in the country of Uzbekistan. It is estimated that their are millions more in the country who self-identity as Uzbeks to avoid discrimination. They are concentrated in the eastern part of the country around the cities of Bukhara and Samarkhand, near the border of Tajikstan.
Prayer Points:
• The Uzbek authorities are engaged in a systematic campaign to "turkify" the Tajiks, who have a Persian related language and culture. They have been confiscating books and literature in the Tajik language. Pray for missionary advocates to be raised up on their behalf who will emphathize with their struggle and stand with them.
• The discrimination against the Tajiks has opened them to Islamists who preach a message of violence and hate. Pray that their message might be countered by the power of God's word and the message of forgiveness.
• Many Uzbeiki Tajiks have become atheists due to infuences from the Soviet era. Pray that God would open their eyes to understand the truth and that many would be called as evangelists, pastors and teachers for their people.
