Description: Moroccan Arabs in Belgium are the largest Muslim immigrant population in the country. They originally came as guest workers beginning in the 1960s. Although this program was canceled in 1974 the population has continued to grow primarily through marriage migration.
Prayer Points:
• Secularization in Belgium seems to be having a strong effect on the Moroccan population with recent polls indicating less than 10% of Belgian Moroccans regularly practicing Islam. Pray that this growing spiritual vacuum might be filled with loving Christian witness and that attempts by Saudi's Wahhabists to influence secular Moroccans would be thrwarted.
• Belgium has become the defacto headquarters of radical Islamic terrorist groups in Europe and many hundreds of disillusioned youth have joined their ranks. Pray that the recent bombings in Belgium would open the eyes of young Moroccans to seek the peace found in Christ alone.
• Over 80% of Belgian Moroccans say they face discrimination in seeking employment. Pray that believers in Belgium might reach out to young Moroccans with practical help in finding meaningful work.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, may this time of distress in Belgium become an opportunity for the gospel of grace to enter the hearts of Belgian Moroccans.
