Description: The Arakanese are a Tibeto-Burman speaking tribe, believed by some anthropologists to be genetically related to the Thai. At some point in their history they probably migrated West and adopted a dialect related to Burmese. Due to their geographic proximity to India, their culture has also been signficantly influenced by the Bengali.
Prayer Points:
• The Arakanese have been persecuted by the Burmese and some are fighting for independence alongside persecuted Christian tribes in the North. Pray that the Prince of Peace might come to this land, and that the care shown by Christians might point them to the Savior.
• There has been recent church-growth in Bangladesh among the Arakanese refugee populations forced out by the Burmese government, and many hundreds have come to faith in Christ. Pray that this fresh awakening might impact related family members and friends back in Myanmar.
• The Rakhine claim to have received the Buddhist faith from the Buddha himself during his earthly life. Pray that the spirit of pride might be broken and that all attraction to empty religious traditions might diminish.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, your heart sees the brokenness and suffering of the Arakanese. May they experience the fullness of your healing love in Jesus.
