Description: The Palaung are one of the earliest known inhabitants of Myanmar. They are a Mon-Khmer tribe related to the Cambodians and Vietnamese, though they live far from these groups. Today most Palaung tribes live in Shan state and have been greatly influenced by Shan culture.
Prayer Points:
• There has been some outreach from neighboring Christian tribes such as the Kachin to the Palaung. Praise God for the missionary vision of these tribes and pray that they might continue to reach out and intercede for the Palaung.
• The Palaung are a cluster of many tribes which speak distinct dialects that require their own unique Scripture resources. Work has begun among the Pale tribe and the Jesus film has been dubbed in this dialect. Pray that adaptations of these translations might be made for every Palaung language.
• The Palaung are staunch Buddhists and adhere to Buddhism as a form of their ethnic identity to distinguish themselves from their Christian neighbors. Pray that the gospel might come to the Palaung in an indigenous way and that they might know Jesus is for them as well as for their neighbors.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, may the Palaung experience your goodness and know the depths of your grace for them in Jesus. May the lies of the enemy be silenced by the truth of your word and the love of your heart.
