Description: The Rangpuri Muslims live primarily in northern Bangladesh, in the Rangpur divison. Their language has strong influences from Assamese, Bengali, Maithili and Nepali. For political reasons, the Rangpuri are unrecognized by the Bengali as a unique people group and language. In reality, their language is quite distinct as is their ethnic identity.
Prayer Points:
• The Rangpuri homeland was cut in two by the partition of India and Bangladesh (East Pakistan). Many Muslim Rangpuri have migrated into Assam where they are more accessible to Christian witness. Pray for believers in Assam and India that God would grant them his wisdom and grace in reaching these immigrants.
• Rangpur division in Bangladesh has over 18,000 mosques and only 60 churches. Christians are just 0.03% of the population. Pray for God's protection over these believers and for his anointing on their witness.
• The literacy rate among Rangpuris is around 46% for men and 34% for women. Literacy classes have proven an effective way to reach them for Christ. Pray for God's blessing on these efforts and for the multiplication of this minstry.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, raise up harvesters for the Rangpuri and send them forth with your power and strength to declare the salvation you have given us in your Son Jesus.
