Description: The Iraqi Turkmen began settling in large numbers into Northern Iraq around 1,000 years ago. Their language is considered a transitional dialect between Azeri and Standard Turkish.
Prayer Points:
• The Iraqi Turkmen were persecuted by Saddam, who suppressed their culture and language, and tried to relocate many in order to Arabize them. Pray that God might use this mistreatment to open their eyes to his unconditional love for them in Jesus Christ.
• Turkey is seeking to insert itself as a powerbroker in Iraq by manipulating the Turkmen as a political force through a group called the Iraqi Turkmen Front. They have formed an army of 4,000 soldiers to fight against ISIS. Pray that the troubles of this region might awaken their need for the Prince of Peace.
• Due to the oppression of their people many thousand of Iraqi Turkmen have immigrated to Europe. Pray that they might be protected from Secularism and might instead be welcomed into the Church by loving Christian witness.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, you sovereignly brought the Turkmen to Iraq that they might be saved in this day and hour. May your purpose for them in Christ be fulfilled as we approach His coming.
Every year 18,000 Iraqi Turkmen die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
