Description: Iranian Kurds make up around 7% of the population. They live primarily in the northwestern portion of the country, with the exception of around 700,000 that were deported in the 17th century to Khorasan in Eastern Iran. Though isolated from the majority Kurdish population these Kurds have continued to maintain a distinct culture and speak the Kirmanji dialect.
Prayer Points:
• The Iranian Kurds have resisted efforts by the government to assimilate them. In 1979 Khomeini declared a holy war against them and killed 10,000. Pray that God might use Persian believers in Iran to reach out to the Kurds in love and begin the process of healing they need.
• Many Iranian Kurds travel to Armenia for vacation or business, which is nearby where they live. Pray that Armenian below might reach out to them with the love of Christ and show them Christian hospitality.
• Sunni Kurds are discriminated against in predominately Shiite Iran, and are not allowed to build their own mosques. This has forced them to have secret meetings in homes. Pray that this discrimination might lead them to seek the truth of the gospel through which all are made equal in Christ.
