Description: The Digo are one of nine ethnic sub-groups of the Mijikenda people living in Kenya and Tanzania, along the coast (the name Mijikenda means "nine homesteads" referring to the common origin of the Mijikenda tribes). They speak a Bantu language called Chidigo.
Prayer Points:
• The Digo are recent converts to Islam and they are the most Islamic of all the Mijikenda tribes. However, most still practice pre-Islamic rituals and have an animistic worldview. Pray that the gospel would come to them in full power and authority over all traditional spirits in their homeland and culture.
• The Mijikenda tribes are making decisions to convert to Christianity or Islam. Pray that the movement among the Digo might be reversed and that God would raise up believers from related Mijikenda tribes to reach out to the Digo.
• The Digo have a history of being enslaved by Arabs and many converted to Islam in order to win their freedom. Pray for spiritual freedom to come over the Digo and for this generational curse of slavery to be broken.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, rescue the Digo by your great power and grace from the darkness which has enveloped their land and their hearts.
Every year 5,000 Mijikenda Digo die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
