Description: The Oromo are a Cushitic people, related to the Somali. Around the 13th century they migrated north from Somalia into the highland plains of Ethiopia. They are divided into numerous tribes (12 major) and subtribes, the majority of which converted to Islam in the last 400 years.
Prayer Points:
• The complexity of the Oromo demands a much higher deployment of missionaries. Pray for effective training and strategic placement of disciple-making teams among every Oromo tribe and sub-tribe, especially the 12 major groups.
• Inter-tribal warfare and conflict has hindered ministry among the Eastern Guji tribe. Pray for stability and peace, and for Christ-centered reconciliation between the various factions.
• Praise God for the willingness of Ethiopian missionaries to reach out to the Oromo cross-culturally, even though one of their own was recently martyred. Pray for increased intercession among Ethiopian believers for reaching the Oromo, their Muslim neighbors.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, may the Oromo Muslims be enthralled by the majesty of your Son Jesus and enter his courts with rejoicing and praise as they experience eternal life in Him.
