Description: The Konkanos are a Dravidian people living on the Konkan coast of West India. As a result of the Portuguese invasion of Goa in the 16th century, many were driven from their homeland and formed new communities along the coast among the Marathi and Kanarese peoples.
Prayer Points:
• The Kankonos resent that many of their ancestors were enticed with Portuguese citizenship to convert to Catholicism by the colonizers over four hundred years ago. This has built up a resistance to the Christian faith among them. Pray that Christ might come to the Konkanos in a way that is culturally free from foreign entanglements.
• The Konkani language was forbidden by the Portuguese colonists. Those that fled Portuguese persecution developed unique dialects influenced by the majority languages where they went. Pray that each of these unique dialects might have gospel resources developed for them.
• An estimated 40% of private schools in the state of Karnataka are owned and run by Konkanos. Pray that owners of these schools would come to faith in Jesus and develop a passion for Christ-centered education.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, may your kingdom come and your will be done among the Kankono people. Accelerate the day of their salvation for your glory.
Every year 50,000 Konkanos die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
