Description: The Crimean Tatars emerged as a unique ethnicity during the Crimean Khanate (15th to 18th century). The ethnic groups of this region adopted Turkish as their language, and created a unique dialect, which is both distinct from and partially intelligble with modern Turkish.
Prayer Points:
• Hundreds of thousands of Crimean Tatars were deported by Stalin from their homeland over fifty years ago. Pray for God's peace to bring healing to this brokenness and the restoration of lost identity. Pray also for effective outreach to the diaspora living in Turkey, Uzbekistan and Romania.
• There are three principle subgroups among the Crimean Tatars, the Tats (55% of population), the Yaliboyu (30%) and the Nogay (15%). Pray that for effective church-planting that is relevant to each of these cultural contexts.
• Around 250,000 Crimean Tatars have been able to return to Crimea, yet once again they find themselves living in fear as their homeland has been seized by Russia. Pray that in the midst of this uncertainty they might reach out for the one true hope found in Jesus.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, may your loving arms take hold of the Crimean Tatars and open their hearts to receive the eternal salvation you have purposed through faith in your Son Jesus.
Every year 5,000 Crimean Tatars die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
