Description: Buddhism in China dates back over 2,000 years. It has been both welcomed and persecuted over the centuries by Chinese emperors. Today Buddhism is enjoying a resurgence in China due to the spiritual vacuum created by athiestic communism. Although adherents are somewhat nominal today, Buddhist teachers are pouring into China to educate these acolytes and their children.

• The Chinese associate Buddhism with prosperity. It is common now to see statues of Buddha in Chinese businesses where patrons will place money for good luck. Ironically, this superstition runs counter to everything the Buddha taught. Pray for deliverance from the spirit of materialism through the power of Jesus Christ.
• The current president of China is favorable to Buddhism and under this leadership Buddhist temples have multiplied by thousands, and can even be seen on state property. Pray that the spiritual strongholds associated with this advance would be restrained by the Spirit of God and the truth of His word.
• Outside of China, Buddhism has become very popular among the Chinese diaspora, especially in Thailand, Singapore and Taiwan. These diaspora groups have become very influential in the re-introduction of Buddhism into China today. Pray for spiritual breakthrough among Chinese buddhist monks throughout the diaspora that they might find the hope they are searching found in Christ alone.
