Description: The Libyan Arabs are the descendants of intermarriage between bedouin tribes (Banu Hebib, Awf, Debban, Zegb) and Berbers (Luata, Nefusa, Adassa). They are divided culturally between the eastern Cyrenica settlers, where the Hebib tribe settled, and the western Tripolitania settlers.
Prayer Points:
• Libya is considered a failed state, and most cities have now become independent of one another. This has provided an opportunity for expatriate Christian witness in some areas, but not in others. Pray for continued open doors for ministry in the midst of this chaotic period in Libya's history.
• Over one million Libyans are now refugees in Tunisia. This has provided a unique opportunity for witness and the emerging Tunisian church is rising to the challenge. Pray that many long-term church-planters would be raised up to reach this potentially receptive population.
• The completion of the Bible has struggled due to lack of indigenous Libyan believers to form a translation team. Pray that God would give vision and giftings to the few Libyan believers to tackle this project.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, you hear and see the cry of the Libyan people, whose lives and land has been devastated. We pray for your mercy and grace to visit them through the presence of your Son Jesus in your people.
Every year 55,000 Libyan Arab die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
