Description: The Tamil are a Dravidian people living primarily in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. A significant number also live on the nearby island of Ceylon and as part of the Indian diaspora.
Prayer Points:
• There are around 130 Hindu castes that make-up the Tamil ethnicity. Of these around 25 have been reached. Pray that believers from these reached groups would be effective in evangelizing some of the larger unreached Tamil groups, such as the Vanniyan (10.4 million) and the Viswakarmaala (3.4).
• Tamil Nadu is the most heavily urbanized state in India (47%). It is also the most economically advanced southern state. Pray that the growing affluence of the Tamil church might not lead to materialism but rather might be used of God to fund church-planting throughout the South of India, and beyond.
• Over 60,000 churches have been planted among the Tamils, yet much work remains. Over half of all Tamil villages still remain without a church. Pray that each Tamil church might be used of God to start at least one daughter church in an unreached community.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, we rejoice in the great work that has begun among the Tamil. May this nation become a power-house for the gospel in this region.
