Description: The Qizilbash are the descendants of Turkic mercenaries who adopted Dari as their mother-tongue after settling in Afghanistan. Their name derives from the Turkish word for "crimson" which was a reference to the distinctive color of their head- dress, as designed by their founder Shaykh Heydar.
Prayer Points:
• The Qizilbash believe in a heterodox version of Islam called Ismailism, which deifies its leaders. Pray for deliverance from spiritual bondage and for freedom to know Christ as Lord of Lords, and the only true Son of God.
• Persecution of the Qizilbash forced them to create a secret society and pretend publicly to observe Sunni Islam, while in secret adhering to their own religious tradition. Pray that this creativity might be transfomred into the creation of an underground church-planting movement in Afghanistan.
• Many Qizilbash have become influential members of the government, business and education communities of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Pray that this influence might be used to the glory of God in Christ.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, in your sovereignty you brought the Qizilbash to Afghanistan that one day they might find you in this place and be redeemed. May it be so in our generation.
Every year 3,000 Qizilbash die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
