Description: The Assamese live in India's northeast, predominately in the state of Assam. They descend from a mixture of Indo-Aryan, Tibetan and Tai races, giving them a unique appearance and culture.
Prayer Points:
• The Assamese are strongly nationalistic and many are fighting for their own independent state, resulting in at least 30,000 deaths. Assam is an oil-rich region, which further complicates matters. Pray the gospel would bring peace to this land and for healing from the trauma of war.
• The Assamese are one of the least-reached ethnic groups in India. Major sub-groups such as the Brahmins (priestly caste) and Banias (trading caste) have few if any believers. Pray that the gospel would impact every area and dimension of Assamese society.
• The Assamese language is very closely related to Bengali, where there are many more follower of Christ. Pray that God would raise up church-planters from West Bengal to go into every district and village of Assam with the gospel.
