Description: The Haratine, also known as the Black Moors, are Hassaniya Arabic speakers in Mauritania who descend from intermarriages between West African tribes, Berbers and Arabs. The word Haratine means black in Berber and cultivator in Arabic. Unlike the White Moors (Haratine) who traditionally were mostly nomadic, the Haratine have been sedentary for many centuries.
Prayer Points:
• The Haratine have been mistreated in Mauritanian society and hundreds of thousands are still slaves of the White Moors. Pray for justice to come to this land through Christ and that the White Moors who mistreat them might find redemption in the gospel message.
• The Bible has yet to be published in Hassaniya Arabic, and most of the Haratine are illiterate. Pray for God's blessing on the translation team working on the New Testament and for the wide distribution of scripture recordings.
• Over one third of Haratine children are malnourished. Pray for compassionate ministry that will bring hope and life in the name of Christ to impoverished families and for effective development in the country based on Scriptural principles.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, you sent your son to set the captives free. May his message and power become an ever present reality for the Haratine.
Every year 27,000 Haratines die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
