Description: The Pashai are a dardic-related tribe living in the remote northeast corner of Afghanistan. They speak four major dialects which are mutually unintelligible. As a result, many use Pashto as their trade language. It is believed that they were pushed into the mountainous Hindu Kush region by the expansion of Pashtun tribes into their traditional homeland in the plains.
Prayer Points:
• The Pashai have a hierarchical caste system which is divided between those who own property, those who are artisans and those who are landless tenants. These groups tend to only intermarry amongst themselves. Pray that in Christ these social divisions might be removed and that the gospel might spread equally among them all.
• The Pashai are known for their inter-clan disputes and every man is considered a warrior. Pray for God's peace to come into their lives through Jesus Christ and that they might become champions of hope and love in this war-torn land.
• Women are granted a much higher place and have considerable more freedom among the Pashai than in other regions of Afghanistan. Pray for God's purposes for Pashai women to be fully realized as they enter into their calling within Christ's kingdom and his church.
A Prayer: Heavenly Father, may all those whom you are drawing to yourself among the Pashai enter into the hope of their salvation through the powerful proclamation of your Word in their midst.
Every year 5,000 Pashai die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
