Description: The Shawiya are a large Berber tribe inhabiting the Aures mountains of Algeria. Their semi-nomadic pastoral lifestyle has afforded them the luxury and freedom of self-sufficiency and independence.
Prayer Points:
• The Shawiya pride themselves on their resistance to conquest and colonization for millenia. They deeply resent their conquest by the French, who tried to put them into camps, in the 19th century. Pray for healing from this traumatic past, and that this resolve to be free might lead them to embrace the true freedom found in Christ alone.
• The Shawiya have a closely knit society that still remains in relative isolation from the world and their host country of Algeria. Pray that those Shawiya who have migrated to Italy, Belgium and France might hear the gospel in these lands and return as missionaries to their people.
• The Shawiya are the largest unengaged unreached people group in North Africa. Pray that the recent breakthrough among the Kabyles in Algeria might develop into a missionary movement to reach their unreached neighbors.

Every year 21,000 Shawiya Berbers die without Christ, many of whom never hear the gospel in their lifetime. Let's do something to change that.
